A GREAT SUCCESS FOR DIASEN WHO PROMOTED THE INITIATIVE

Sassoferrato, 22 July 2024 – On Thursday 18 July, the inaugural ceremony was held for the work ‘Il Bosco in una Stanza’ (The Forest in a Room), created by Giulio Iacchetti for Diasen and exhibited at the Cork Museum in Calangianus, Sardinia.
The inauguration, attended by the mayor of the Gallura centre and representatives of professional and sector associations, was preceded by speeches by Diasen president Diego Mingarelli, designer Giulio Iacchetti, who conceived the work, and Australian designer Joost Bakker, who arrived directly from Australia to learn about and appreciate the beauty of cork, the originality of the supply chain that generates it and the ancient, nuragic universe from which it derives.
‘The Forest in a Room’ summarises the metaphor of a cork forest perimeter wall, with a cork-grain floor and a passageway imitating paths through the forest. The work consists of 15 columns covered with cork-based paint offering different effects and textures and is crowned by 55 kerbs and 23 passage tiles in the structure, also made of cork-based mortar, provided by Diasen.
In order to give guests an up-close look at the cork production processes, a visit to a cork oak forest with a team of extractors was organised for the following morning, offering participants the chance to witness the fascinating dehulling process.
Diego Mingarelli, president of Diasen, explained the reasons for this two-day event in Calangianus: “Because of the type of use we make of cork in our paints and biomalts, we have consolidated a deep relationship with the community of Calangianus and with some groups of extractors. This is why it seemed right and coherent to us to transfer the installation we created together with Giulio Iacchetti for Milan Design Week to its natural home, the Cork Museum in Calangianus. The two-day event was also a great opportunity to convey the appeal of this Mediterranean material to many people who did not know it, and to Joost Bakke, an Australian designer and great expert on sustainable materials, who came to Sardinia for the occasion. For Diasen, it was an important moment of identity, an opportunity to broaden the horizons related to the use of cork, and confirmation of how important it is to have intense, deep and lasting relationships not only with users but with all the operators in the supply chain.“
‘The Forest in a Room’ will be open until 4 May 2025.
