The roof of a building, flat or inclined , must be carefully thermally insulated, as it is, along the perimeter walls, the preferential way out for the heat during winter season.
The heat tends to rise upwards and thus the correct thermal insulation can reduce heat loss that occurs at the floors and roof level.
The insulating layer used in these cases must also ensure sufficient mechanical strength to allow the usability of flat surfaces, as in the case of a terrace or flat roof.
