The steam, coming into contact with a cold surface, changes from gas to liquid, then wetting the wall with which it comes into contact.
In the event that this happens on a non-absorbent substrates, such as a ceramic tile, moisture does not penetrate into the wall. But if this is an area characterized by an even minor degree of absorbency, such as a plaster, the wall will absorb moisture, thus creating the conditions for the proliferation of moulds.
