The problem of rising dampness may also occur in situations in which the dehumidifying effect may not be sufficient or cannot be applied, as in the case of a basement under the ground level. In cases like this the only solution is to encapsulate the dampness inside the masonry, thus preventing its leakage.
This solution can be beneficial even in the case of mild rising dampness, where the "water line" does not exceed a height of 30 - 40 cm or, for instance, in correspondance of boundary walls external to the house.
In such cases the solution is represented by a waterproofing material which, applied on the side of the wall on which the dampness is coming from, is able to block its escaping, creating an effective waterproofing in counterthrust.
