The thermal insulating cork-based plaster
Diasen undertook the first series of tests on cork based plaster as early 1985. The aim of our research was to obtain a unique product that would have the best thermal, dehumidifying, sound absorbent and durability qualities (when exposed to cold, heat and salt) with easy applications.
All of the materials used in Diathonite production have a life-span of at least 100 years; recent archaeological findings have even brought to light remains of Roman houses dating back to as far as 2000 years ago, wich were insulated with corking. The diatomaceous and clay powders which form the basis of our product have accumulated in deposits for thousands of years on our planet. The cement used or binding is the only product that has not been proven in terms of durability, but we do not believe that this will be determined within thisgeneration.
Thermal coating insulation
The high thermal conductivity makes this product suitable for exterior insulation of both new and old walls.
Correction of thermal bridges
It is possible to apply a wider thickness of product in presence of thermal bridges in the internal and exterior of building.
Energetic revaluation of old buildings
Do to its lightness, versatility of use, high flexibily, Diathonite can be used on already existent plaster and on mixed brickworks.
Humidity restoration
Diatomeic powder makes Diathonite the only both thermal and dehumidifyng plaster.
Partition walls acoustic insulation
Diathonite system offers a certified choice to the traditional ones.
Elimination of acoustic reverberation
The hollowness makes Diathonite the best acoustic absorbent plaster.
Thermal screed
Mechanical resistance and the chance to stick tiles directly on the product, makes Diathonite a excellent low thickness system.
Acoustic insulation of footfalls
Diathonite is a light material and it is certified to be used as floating tile.
Cork: the decision to use cork was based on its ability to perform as a finished material, adaptable to, and therefore efficient for, new construction developments. This material is non-toxic, biologically pure, unalterable, impermeable, breathble, resistant, thermally inert, electrically neutral and no-deformable. It has a good mechanical resistance, low combustion speed and excellent acoustic characteristics.
Clay: it was the first construction material ever used. Within the Diathonite mix it adds consistency to the mortar. Further, as it is a porous and light aggregate it has an excellent thermal coefficient.
Diatomeic powder: this is a naturally occurring mineral, formed through the accumulation of organic material (cuttlebones, vegetation, etc.), in the ocean floor in prehistoric times. When the water subsided depostis were distributed in vrious parts of the earth. Due to its high level of porosity (85%) per volume, the diatomaceous powder can absorb liquid of up to one and a half time its weight, whilst remaining a completely dry aggregate.
Various additives: the additives that we use are all totally environmentally sound. They are vegetable based and serve to amalgamate the mix, making it more malleable and easier to apply. They give rise to the formation of micro cells, which maintain a high level of permeability to water vapour and increase the thermal resistance of the binder.
Polypropylene fibres: fibres are regarded as extremely important to construction. They prevent mortar from splitting so the thermally coated walls do not generate thermal bridges. They also bring a higher level of mechanical resistance to the plaster. The polypropylene fibres do not leave toxic residue. The small quantities used in the production of Diathonite do not affect the environmental soundness of the product and, in time, add complete stability.
